A three-day, four-night closure of a section of Centerville Road March 7 through March 11 in East Hempfield Township is expected to cause congestion and delays, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Weather permitting, between 8 p.m. March 7 and 6 a.m. March 11, Centerville Road will be closed between Hempland Road and Old Tree Drive so contractors can widen an existing Norfolk Southern railroad crossing and do other work on the ongoing widening of a 1.5-mile section of Centerville Road.
The detour route for the closure calls for vehicles traveling south on Centerville Road to turn right on Hempland Road, left on Donerville Road and left on Columbia Avenue (Route 462) before returning to Centerville Road. Vehicles traveling north on South Centerville Road will turn left on Columbia Avenue, right on Donerville Road, and right on Hempland Road before returning to Centerville Road. Centerville Road businesses will still be accessible.
The work is part of a $36.3 million project to widen Centerville Road to two lanes in each direction, and reconstruct its interchange with Route 30, which is scheduled for completion in July 2025. The contractor is J.D. Eckman Inc. of West Sadsbury Township, Chester County.
