When: West Earl Township Board of Supervisors meeting, Dec. 16.
What happened: Supervisors unanimously approved the 2025 budget.
Taxes: The proposed budget includes an increase in real estate tax from 1.37 mills to 1.42 mills. The fire tax will remain at 0.245 mills. The total new millage rate will be 1.665 mills. To calculate your tax bill, multiply the millage rate by the number of thousands of the assessed value of your property. The tax bill for a property assessed at $100,000 will jump from $161.50 to $166.50.
Key numbers: The budget lists total revenue of $4.4 million and total expenses of $6.8 million. A projected carryover of $2.44 million will be used to balance the budget, Township Manager Jenna Reigle said by email Dec. 17. The largest expenditure in 2025 is $2.4 million to fund the West Earl Police Department. Other expenditures include $748,026 for the road department and $307,000 for highway construction.
Contributions: West Earl’s annual library contribution will be $4,000 to the Ephrata Public Library. The township will also provide a $4,280 contribution to the Lancaster County Drug Task Force.
Truck purchase: Supervisors approved purchasing a 2018 Ford F-250 Super Duty truck for the West Earl water department. The township transferred $25,000 from the general fund to the water fund for the purchase.
What’s next: Supervisors will hold their reorganizational meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 6 at the township building, 157 West Metzler Road, Brownstown.
