When: West Earl Twp. Board of Supervisors meeting, Dec. 9.

What happened: Starting next summer, West Earl will contract its lawn care services. Supervisors voted to award Stuart and Sons Quality Lawn Care, which was the lowest bidder, a lawn maintenance contract.

Details: The company will perform mowing, trimming, and weed control on township property, Neil Stoltzfus, roadmaster, said.

By the numbers: Lawn care services will cost the township a weekly $2,100, Chair John Ford said. The total cost would be $58,800 for 28 cuts during the summer, he said.

Why it matters: Township officials cited loss of staff as a reason for bidding lawn maintenance. West Earl had part-time individuals who mowed the grass during the summer months, Jenna Reigle, township manager, said.

Burn ban: Supervisors also voted to rescind the burn ban enacted last month. Reigle explained the township is comfortable with lifting the ban due to a low fire risk from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

What’s next: Supervisors will meet for the final time in 2024 at 7 p.m. Dec. 16 to approve the 2025 budget. The meeting will be held at the township building at 157 W. Metzler Road, Brownstown.
