The Lancaster city branch of the Lancaster Public Library has been forced to close temporarily due to flooding on the building’s first floor Saturday night, according to library officials.

Leigh Kaliss, the director of communications for the Lancaster Public Library, said a backup in a sewage pipe caused considerable flooding but no damage to the library’s print collection.

Library officials consulted with restoration partners and determined that the building will have to be closed to the public until at least Saturday. Limited library services are expected to be restored by Monday, March 3.

Kaliss said no late fines will be assessed for overdue items. Patrons will be able to return materials to the library’s three exterior book drops located near the library’s front door, as well as on North Christian Street to the rear of the library.

The library’s Mountville Branch will continue to operate under normal hours: Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We understand the inconvenience caused to our patrons and we are working diligently to restore our library to a safe condition as soon as possible,” said Kaliss.
