Ice Feb. 6 2026

Icicles hang from a stop sign in East Hempfield Township on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025.

Predictions of a significant snowstorm Wednesday night into Thursday likely will not pan out as the storm has moved further south, missing Lancaster County according to meteorologists.

Snow is a “swing and a miss” for the area, according to Millersville Weather Information Center Director Kyle Elliott who wrote that residents are likely to see minimal if any snowfall midweek. On Thursday, Lancaster could see some light scattered snow showers, but any accumulation will be less than a half inch and result in just some lightly slippery roads.

Any snow that does fall is likely to stick around as the remainder of the week will be bitterly cold, with highs up to the low 30s and lows in the teens. The National Weather Service in State College is predicting a thawing this weekend as highs are forecasted to reach the 40s over the weekend and 50s Monday and Tuesday next week.

The county is under a Code Blue alert from Monday through Saturday morning, according to the Lancaster County Homelessness Coalition. Tenfold has reopened its temporary 40-bed shelter on East King Street and the county’s 80-bed shelter at Otterbein United Methodist Church, operated by YMCA of the Roses, will remain open throughout the week.
