On Jan. 17, LNP | LancasterOnline published the article “Lancaster city gets $3.1M grant for electric vehicle chargers in low-income areas.”
City officials are eyeing areas where there are a lack of charging stations, including areas with households of low income or education.
Currently, the average price of an electric vehicle is around $55,000 and the average price of a used electric vehicle is around $25,000. If you are having trouble putting food on the table, paying the rent and paying other bills, I doubt that an electric vehicle would be your first choice for transportation.
Cindy McCormick, the city’s deputy director of public works, stated that a lack of available charging stations was an impediment for people to purchase electric vehicles. I honestly don’t think that this is the truth. Why not place the charging stations where most electric vehicles are registered?
Once the price of a used electric vehicle drops below $15,000 or $20,000, the aforementioned areas can be populated with charging stations.
Since grant money is really our money, I would like to see charging stations placed where they will be used.
