Jordan Ashby scored 16 points to lead Lancaster Country Day past Dayspring Christian in the District Three Class 1A quarterfinals. The 5-11 guard is the Cougars’ leading scorer at 14.8 points per game and ranks third in the L-L League with 58 3-pointers.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lancaster County Christian School is making a spirited run through the District Three Class 1A bracket, and junior guard Sophie MacCartney has been a key cog during the seventh-seeded Lions’ ride to the semifinals. In a first-round game last Monday, MacCartney scored 14 points in LCCS’s 57-23 victory over 10th-seeded Harrisburg Christian. In the quarterfinals on Thursday, MacCartney scored a team-high 13 points, when the Lions upset second-seeded Mount Calvary Christian 37-30. MacCartney has helped the Lions lock up a PIAA playoff spot for the second year in a row, and LCCS will make its first appearance in the district semifinals tonight at New Covenant Christian in Lebanon.

BOYS WRESTLING

Hard to pass up another tip of the cap to Northern Lebanon senior Aaron Seidel, who not only tied the state wins record on Saturday by picking up career W No. 199, but he did it in fine fashion by spending it on his fourth career District Three Class 2A championship. He pinned Delone Catholic’s Gavin Green in 1:53 to win the 133-pound title.

BOYS BOWLING

On Saturday at Reading’s Hiester Lanes, Garden Spot junior Gavin Courtney rolled a 300 at the District Three championships. And on top of that? After the perfecto in the single elimination finals, Courtney, also the L-L boys champ this season, went on to score his second straight district title. In the final, he rolled past Daniel Boone’s Blake Jeitles 258-231.

GIRLS BOWLING

The L-L went 2-for-2 at Hiester on Saturday, as Warwick senior Taylor Miller captured her second career District Three crown. Miller, who finished as runner-up in leagues this season, won her first district title in 2023. In this year’s final, though, she was in control most of the way, beating Lower Dauphin’s Skylynn Phillipy 191-170.
