Editor's note: This brief has been updated to more clearly identify the content of the educational seminar.

When: Clay Township Board of Supervisors meeting, Feb. 10.

What happened: Supervisors approved partnering with Ephrata Township to host a stormwater management educational event in March for farmers. Farmers in both townships will receive invitations by mail.

Details: The event is tentatively scheduled for March 10 at the Lincoln Fire Hall in Ephrata, Bruce Leisey, township manager, said. After discussions with Steve Sawyer, township manager for Ephrata Township, Leisey said both municipalities want to find a central location that can accommodate 100 people. Ephrata Township supervisors approved to partner with Clay at their Feb. 3 meeting. The event will feature speakers from Team Ag Inc. and the Penn State Extension, covering topics such as stormwater runoff and biosecurity.

Cost: The municipalities would be responsible for mailing invitations, educational presentations and lunch costs. The cost of the event will depend on the number of participants. However, the cost between both townships should not exceed $2,500, Leisey said.

Why it matters: This event is part of state-mandated public education on stormwater management, officials said.

Road co-op: Supervisors also voted to participate in a municipal cooperative agreement for roadwork. Although East Earl Township will be handling the bidding process, Clay will receive 310,000 linear feet of line painting and approximately 138,531 square yards of sealcoat for its roads. Rural roads will receive a half-inch sealcoat, and roads in neighborhood developments will receive a quarter-inch sealcoat, Leisey said. Funding will come from liquid fuels allocations from the state, he said.

Roads: The roads receiving a half-inch oil and chip will be Leed Hill Road, Church Road, Snyder Lane, Water Street, Ice House Hill Road, Hillcrest Drive, Sun Valley Road, Mountain Spring Road, Seglock Road, Yummerdall Road, Fawn Hollow Road, Laural Drive, Millstone Road and Museum Road. Ridge View Drive, Longview Drive, Carter Drive, Maurice Circle, Matthew Drive, Daniel Drive, Linda Lane, Snyder Park Lane, Summit Circle, Skyline Avenue and Farmland Drive will receive a quarter-inch oil and chip.

What’s next: Supervisors will meet at 7 a.m. Feb. 25 at the township building on 870 Durlach Road, Stevens.
