When: Lititz Borough Council meeting, Jan. 28.
What happened: Lititz Borough Police will have a new chief starting in April, with the appointment of Sgt. Jared Hahn to replace retiring police Chief Kerry Nye.
Background: Nye is retiring after 45 years of service to the department. Hahn is a 22-year veteran of Lititz Borough Police Department and a 2002 graduate of Warwick High School. He graduated from Temple University Police Academy in 2003 and was hired in May of that year. In April 2014, Hahn was promoted to the rank of sergeant where he supervised patrol officers. In addition to field supervisor responsibilities, Hahn has authored agency policies, procedures and strategic initiatives. He is pursing a master’s degree in the administration of justice with a concentration in leadership and administration at Wilmington University.
Quotable: “This is an incredible honor,” Hahn said. “I have lived in Lititz my entire life, and I love this community. I am committed to the future success of the police agency and serving this community.”
By the numbers: Hahn’s annual salary will be $116,275, he said after the meeting.
Quotables: “It was a very detailed (search) process, with two highly qualified internal candidates,” said council member Jerry Meck, who heads the personnel committee. Mayor Timothy Snyder said, “Jared Hahn is a calm and thoughtful person with a commanding presence.”
What’s next: Hahn is expected to take over in April.
