Four men were sworn in as Lancaster city police officers Wednesday, bringing the city closer to its goal of having a full complement of 128 officers.
Lancaster Mayor Danene Sorace swore in the officers during a ceremony at City Hall.
Blake Cohen graduated from East Stroudsburg University and served in the Army National Guard as an infantryman, then a team leader and won a battalionwide competition while on tour in Djibouti.
Jake Hines graduated from Lampeter-Strasburg High School and Shippensburg University.
Colin Miller studied at Lancaster Bible College and Community College of Baltimore County.
Steven Nusca has a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, a master’s degree from West Chester University, a professional degree from Saint Joseph’s University and served 8 1/2 years in the Army National Guard.
The city has about 105 officers. The department needs to hire about 10 officers a year as it also loses about six a year to retirements.
The department is accepting applications for its next agility test. Information about a career with the department can be found online at lcbpcareers.com.
