When: Eden Township Board of Supervisors meeting, Dec. 9.
What happened: The board approved the budget for 2025 as previously advertised, along with a small tax increase.
Taxes: The new real estate tax rate will be 1.15 mills, a 0.02 mill increase over the current rate of 1.13 mills. For the owners of a property assessed at $100,000 this is a tax increase of $2.
Budget and more: The 2025 budget as approved shows $809,018 in revenues and $797,523 in expenses. One unbudgeted item that may be added next year is an agreement with Quarryville Borough to have its police department provide coverage of the Enola Low Grade Trail — the recreational rail trail that runs through Eden Township.
Background: Supervisor Joseph Rineer said he had communicated with the borough police chief about the idea. No agreement has been reached, but he said an estimated cost for the police checking on the two trail access points once per shift would be about $6,000 per year. Quarryville police would also be authorized to go onto the trail if needed.
Quotable: “It’s food for thought. Hopefully, they can get back to us by next month,” Rineer said.
Other business: The board approved a new burning ordinance outlining the type of burning that is permitted and not permitted. The new code gives the fire department authority to enforce regulations and enables the supervisors to enact a burn ban in dry conditions.
