Union Community Care will have more room for primary care, behavioral health and other services at a recently purchased Lancaster city building, thanks to plans to move its administrative staff to a new office in late October.

The new 26,000-square-foot Lancaster city office will house the organization's full administrative staff of more than 50 people, with 25% of the floor to remain open for future expansion of that staff, spokesperson Nicole Specht said. The office is located at 454 New Holland Ave., Unit 300, above the Lancaster Science Factory.

The nonprofit will relocate the staff to the new office from its current Lancaster city administrative building at 812 North Prince St., Specht said. Union Community Care rents the current location, and will no longer have a presence there after the administrative staff leave, according to Specht.

The goal was to use “every inch” of the roughly 20,000-square-foot building at 234 West Orange St. — which is at a walkable, accessible location — for patient care, Specht said. That led to a search for a space to use exclusively for administration.

“Finding a space that we could not, at any point, turn into patient care was important in finding an exclusive administration building. We have a tendency to turn space for administration into patient care space,” Specht said.

Union Community Care anticipates seeing over 10,000 patients in a year at the West Orange Street location, Specht said.

Previous plans would have had the staff move into the West Orange Street building purchased last October, which was originally planned for mixed use, according to Specht. That 234 W. Orange St. building, formerly the Groff Event Center, is now set to be used entirely for patient care, Specht said. Services planned for the building so far include primary medical care, maternal and child health, behavioral health and social services, Specht said. These services are already offered at other Union Community Care locations.

Union Community Care bought the New Holland Avenue condominium unit for $2.75 million, according to a deed signed Aug. 30. The nonprofit purchased the West Orange Street building last October for $4.78 million, according to a deed signed on Oct. 18 2023.

The West Orange Street building is expected to open in late 2025, Specht said. Renovations on the space will begin late this year.

Union Community Care provides health services to everyone, including those who are uninsured or partially insured or who have Medicaid or Medicare.
