When: Providence Twp. Board of Supervisors meeting, Nov. 4.
What happened: The board voted to advertise the proposed 2025 budget that does not include a tax increase.
Details: Expenses increased $50,000 from 2024 to a total of $2.32 million. Revenue is projected at $2.46 million. The highway budget went up $90,000 to $415,000, which is covered by gas tax funding from the state.
Taxes: Providence’s property tax will stay at 0.381 mills. One mill equals $1 in property tax for every $1,000 of assessed value. This means a homeowner with a property assessed at $200,000 would owe $76.20 annually.
Expenses: The largest expenses for 2025 include highway maintenance at $1 million, highway construction and rebuilding at $210,000 and employee benefits at $200,450.
Community contributions: Lancaster EMS will receive the same amount of funding as last year, $6,000. The township will not donate to Quarryville Library next year, even though it budgeted $6,000 for the library last year. However, the township never made the contribution, Township Manager Vicki Eldridge said.
What’s next: The board will vote on the final budget at the Dec. 9 meeting.
Traffic signal: The board awarded a contract for traffic signal repairs at the intersection of Truce Road and Route 272 to C.M. High Inc. for $46,900.
Background: Upon inspection in July, officials found the signal was damaged.
What’s next: Workers should start the repairs soon.
Main Street: The board agreed to vacate a portion of Main Street to BNE Property Management. The portion vacated extends from Beaver Valley Pike to Camargo Road. BB’s Grocery Outlet plans to use the road. The grocery does not yet know what it plans to do with the road, Wendell Slabaugh of BB’s said after the meeting.
Appointments: The board appointed Omar Smoker to serve another three-year term on the township zoning hearing board. It also appointed Andrew Odell to serve another four-year term on the township planning commission.
Next meeting: The board will meet again at 7 p.m. Dec. 9 at the township building, 200 Mount Airy Road, New Providence.
